When I engaged a piano service company to tune my piano sometime last year, the man asked me, do you know how many keys there are in a piano?

It turns out that there are 88 keys in a standard piano, of which 36 are black.

It's pretty interesting to learn about facts about piano. So i googled to find more (Facts #1,2 from funtrivia.com)

Fact #1:

The real name of the piano is actually pianoforte, since it can be loud and soft, piano being soft and forte being loud. I never really thought about this question, but now that i recall those days i was learning piano, p always indicates playing the notes softly, and f indicates playing the notes loudly!

Fact #2

Prior to the invention of piano, early composers like Bach used the harpsichord to compose music. It has a higher pitch than the piano and no notes can be sustained

The piano is known as "The King of Instruments". The piano earned this title for a number of reasons including it's tonal range ( the piano covers the full spectrum of any instrument in the orchestra from below the lowest note of the double bassoon to above the top note of the piccolo), it's ability to produce melody and accompaniment at the same time (try that on a flute) and it's broad dynamic range. It is also the largest musical instrument (excluding the pipe organ), most versatile and one of the most interesting.

The Piano was invented in 1698 by an Italian, Bartolomeo Cristofori.

While reading about piano on the internet, i found out that the love story of late Mr Ong Teng Chong and his wife, Mdm Ling Siew May started because of piano. It turns out that they met at a Christmas party organised by a school mate in 1952. Mdm Ling Siew May always loved the piano but her family was unable to afford one. She was really excited to see a piano at the party, and even more excited when she saw Mr Ong Teng Chong playing it. And they spoke after his performance. How sweet (:

I don't have pretty much recollection of late Mr Ong Teng Chong, but i could only remember that i really liked him last time. I don't know why though.
